Central Dental Elsternwick offers a wide range of general dental treatments for the whole family. We use cutting edge technology and advanced techniques, consistent with the regulations from the Australian Dental Association. Wisdom Teeth Assessment

Wisdom teeth issues can arise at any age.  In most cases, removing the wisdom tooth is the management protocol.  At Central Dental Elsternwick, we carry out Panoramic (‘OPG’) radiographs to provide a detailed assessment of your wisdom teeth.

Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges may be indicated when;

  • Replacing a large filling when there is not enough tooth remaining.
  • Protecting a weak tooth from fracturing.
  • Rebuilding a fractured tooth.
  • There are missing teeth.
  • Covering (restoring) dental implants.
  • Covering a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth.
  • Protecting a tooth that has had root canal treatment.

Our high-quality crowns and bridges are locally made by Australian-trained dental technicians in Melbourne.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment is used to repair the damage inside a tooth – it is also referred to as endodontic treatment.  It involves drilling a hole into the tooth and removing the soft centre, known as the dental pulp. The dental pulp is made up of connective tissues, nerves and blood supply, and extends into the roots of the tooth. After the pulp is removed, the space is filled and sealed.  When the dental pulp is damaged, bacteria can start to multiply inside the tooth. This can lead to an infection or abscess, which is a pocket of pus that forms at the end of the tooth’s root.

Saving your own tooth if possible is important. It works better than an artificial tooth for biting and chewing. Losing a tooth can lead to other problems in the mouth. Replacing a lost tooth with an artificial one often needs more complex dental procedures. Root canal treatment is often the best way of saving a tooth.

Splints & Mouthguard

Habitual clenching and/or grinding (Bruxism) can lead to not only teeth-related problems such as worn-looking teeth, cracks and chippings on teeth leading to sensitivity but also tender jaw joints, easily-fatigued chewing muscles, headaches and muscular-neck soreness.  A splint or night-guard can help alleviate these problems.

General Dentistry Frequently Asked Questions

It is important to schedule regular visits to the dentist at least after every six months, even if you are not experiencing any signs and symptoms of illness. This is because your dentist will be able to identify any issues in their early stages and develop a treatment plan to help you prevent them.
